[ art from driftwood ]

Ok, i'll agree this sounds like the sort of crap that gets called "craft", like pet rocks and those god-awful crying child dolls. But this lot is actually rather good.

[ the Gematriculator ]evil-ness

"Gematria is searching for different patterns through the text, such as the amount of words beginning with a vowel. If the amount of these matches is divisible by a certain number, such as 7 (which is said to be God's number), there is an incontestable argument that the Spirit of God is ever present in the text. Another important aspect in gematria are the numerical values of letters: A=1, B=2 ... I=9, J=10, K=20 and so on."

[ the mathematical  power laws of size ]

Take a creature. Double its scale. Its linear dimensions double. Its areal dimensions increase by a factor of 2^2 (eg, its lung area, skin area). It s volumetric dimensions change by a factor of 2^3.

So there ought to be some simple laws describing the functions that depend on two or more of these (eg, body heating/cooling depends on both volume of protoplasm and area of surface)

And there is.

[ Living Doll }

Sharon is a professional living doll. She has a website. And she has worked at the "World's Largest Indoor Flea Market" in Miami, Florida, and the Dupage County Fair in Wheaton, Illinois. Is that not enought recommendation?

Sharon Hallingdal has confounded audiences of all ages as the strolling Living Doll at Fairs, Parties and Conventions throughout the United States and Canada.

Audiences of all ages are fascinated by her hydraulic like motions, and delighted by the humorous situations that spontaneously arise when they find themselves interacting with a real-live robot!!"The expressions on faces of children are priceless". I

ndeed.

[ Pope's Address ]

c/o The Vatican

Vatican City

OK perhaps more relevant: Pope Benedict delivered a Christmas message in which he warned of the evils of technology.

Ironically this was broadcast live on TV to millions of people, and is probably available from the Vatican website.

Devout Catholics dismiss it as yet another mystery of the church, along with transubstantiation, the miracle at Lourdes, the ongoing financial investment success of the Church and the progressive conviction of increasing numbers of clergy on child abuse charges

[ beauty and symmetry: a new study }

At one stage I would have agreed with this. And this must have been a fascinating study. I have some data based on powers of 3 that they may wish to use.  Though there are some situations when asymmetry is as appealing as symmetry. I think it depends.
